Being a public library trustee is a major community stewardship commitment. Join us for this comprehensive overview and orientation covering the legal responsibilities and obligations as well as attributes of effective trustees and boards. Speakers will include experienced trustees as well as attorneys experienced in Illinois Library Law.
Gail Borden Public Library District, Elgin, IL
Kathie Henn and Jim Fessler are partners in the law firm of Klein, Thorpe and Jenkins, Ltd. In Chicago and Orland Park, Illinois. They each have extensive experience representing Library Districts and Local Libraries in Illinois. They are frequent speakers on legal issues affecting Library Districts and Local Libraries in Illinois, having presented at the American Library Association, the Illinois Library Association, Illinois Library Association Youth Services Workshops, ATLAS, the former Metropolitan Library Association, the former North Suburban Library Association, the Kankakee Area Library Association and numerous Library Zone meetings.
Kathy Caudill is a licensed attorney, the director of development for a non-profit organization in Chicago, and a certified fund raising executive (CFRE). She has been a member of the board of trustees for the Ela Area Public Library District since 2003, was a member of the North Suburban Library System (NSLS) board of directors from 2006 – 2011, and has served in various officers’ roles on both boards. As co-chair of the NSLS Trustee Training Task Force, she worked with library directors and trustees to establish trustee core competencies and create the NSLS trustee certification program. She has presented trustee training programs at state and national library conferences and at NSLS.
If a workshop must be canceled by Dominican University, you will be notified via email and your money will be fully refunded. Cancellations by registrants must be received by email to firstname.lastname@example.org seven days prior to the workshop date in order for registrant to receive the maximum refund of 70 percent.
