Dean's Letter
There has never been a better time to become a librarian or information science professional, especially here at Dominican University! I can say that confidently, because our program offerings are stronger than ever.
For instance, in addition to our American Library Association–accredited program leading to a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), we now offer a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Library and Information Science (PhD) program. We also have several certificates that can be earned along with the MLIS, allowing you to “double-dip,” or that can be added to your list of professional credentials. Check out our dual-degree programs, the newest being an MLIS and an MSW (Master of Social Work).
We also now offer many flexible options: Courses are available in person, online, or in a hybrid format. Classes are offered on the main campus in River Forest, at the University Center in Grayslake, or in downtown Chicago. You have the ability to earn a degree on weekends over a two-year period or you can consider a cohort model at some of our locations.
And, our nearness to Chicago and strong professional network allow us to place our students in meaningful practicum situations or in site-specific internships in all types of information settings.
Being the premier library and information program in Northern Illinois, we set the standard for a superior education. We can do that because we have an excellent full-time faculty dedicated to student success, a number of talented adjunct faculty members, and a stellar Advisory Board who all help to shape our innovative and practical programs. Our goal is to prepare highly-qualified professionals, ready to assume leadership positions in the field.
We invite you to explore all the opportunities available to you here. Prepare yourself for the future with us.
